Unhappy 04:08
I never thought I would marry depression But here I am simply asking Won’t you say I do Oh will you be mine too? We were just fine going out tonight Then you got home and there you cried on the couch And it broke my heart when you said Baby Baby don’t touch me please I need some space Space to recalibrate my body Baby Don’t touch my body The words that broke my heart The words that broke my heart You're so unhappy You’re so unhappy You never asked me to be your salvation Can’t divorce my need to fix all I see Will you hold the line? I’ll be pacing on the other side We were just fine staying in tonight Then just as quick as the switch of a light You hit the hardwood floor And it broke my heart when you said Baby Baby don’t touch me please I need some space Space to recalibrate my body Baby Don’t touch my body The words that broke my heart The words that broke my heart You're so unhappy You’re so unhappy Baby Baby don’t touch me please I need some space Space to recalibrate my body Baby Don’t touch my body The words that broke my heart The words that broke my heart Rock yourself to sleep Arms around knees You’re an island Baby I’m your seas Never doubt it I’m always surrounding Rock yourself to sleep Arms around knees You’re an island Baby I’m your seas Never doubt it I’m always surrounding Always surrounding Always surrounding Always surrounding Always surrounding

about

SURPRISE X 2 new tracks out today 💛 You’re An Island / Unhappy are the final B-sides from the Strange Paradise era. 10 whole songs released this year! I worked on these two in various places over the past couple years and their significance and meaning to me evolved quite a bit in 2023 so I wanted to see them through to share with you. These songs close out a very challenging and scary year for my wife Faith who was diagnosed with stage 4 (very serious) endometriosis and had to undergo lifesaving surgery - a full abdominal hysterectomy. I’m of course sharing this info with her consent as this disease impacts 1 in 10 people with a uterus and awareness is such an important thing. Trying to navigate the health care system is like going into a mosh pit blindfolded, and watching someone you love experience chronic pain makes one feel more helpless than a whale in the dessert. And that’s only like 1% of the trauma that the person you love is experiencing and processing. The doctors couldn’t say for certain it wasn’t cancer until 4 weeks after the surgery. It was not a fun time. All that to say - I originally wrote this song figuratively about learning to live with anxiety/depression but it took on a new meaning this year as we learned to keep on loving each other through the hard times. Faith is recovered and back to kicking ass btw. Thankful for our health and able-bodies most of all right now. I know a new year can bring a lot of mixed emotions around our worth, our accomplishments, our futures. Just know that it’s okay if you wanna shrug this one off, go to bed before midnight, miss the ball drop, and keep on doing you the next day. I know a new year can be scary, it can be hard to keep moving forward. Happy or unhappy 2024 - I’m glad you’re here. To a fresh year, a fresh start, or maybe just a fresh day. All my love xo B
